The Parent Leadership Advisory Group is a partnership with the Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council and the California Department of Social Services. PLAG members meet monthly to discuss supportive services in Shasta County. Through this collaboration of parent leaders, community members, and other organizations, PLAG has created many resources for parents involved in Children and Family Services including:

  • A court handbook

  • A parent group

  • A parent phone line

  • An annual community conference

  • Blue Ribbon Court Orientation



PLAG Vision & Mission

Parents and professionals will collaborate to promote empowerment of families through parent leadership, mentoring in preventing child abuse, and building successful and healthy families. All families will have access to resources to increase positive outcomes related to Children and Family Services.


Court Handbook

PLAG produced a court handbook "A Parents Guide: When Children and Family Services are Involved". This booklet is used to help answer questions and provide tips regarding involvement with Children and Family Services. To request a copy, contact 530-242-2020.

Phone Line

Parents can talk to someone who know how they feel and answer any questions about the CFS process and help connect them to resources. 530-710-8609


Parent Group

Parents can talk to someone after court orientation to answer any questions about the CFS process, and help connect them to resources.

PLAG Monthly Meetings

PLAG members meet monthly to talk about ideas, strategize problems and solutions, and find ways to help others in the community. In addition we put knowledge and experiance together, with hopes of improving services and increase success rate of family reunifications. Anyone interested in building a stronger community is encouraged to attend, including:

  • Parents

  • Grandparents

  • Former Foster Children

  • Foster Parents

  • Family Members

  • Social Workers

  • Community Partners

Celebrating National Parent Leadership Month

PLAG offers an annual Parent Leadership conference to the community to discuss topics related to Parent Leadership, Children & Family Services, and Child Abuse Prevention lead by parent volunteers. Community members learn about P.L.A.G., resources, and hot topics that are chosen by parents, parent volunteers, and other individuals. This conference is offered during National Parent Leadership Month in February.
