the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children(CSEC) is the sexual exploitation of minors for economic profit(California Child Welfare Council).
CSEC is part of Human Trafficking and according to the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) includes:
- trafficking for sexual purposes,
- sex tourism,
- mail-order bride trade and early marriage,
- pornography, stripping, and
- performing in sexual venues such as peep shows or clubs.
The average starting age of children who are sexually exploited for commercial purposes is 12 to 14 years old for girls and 11 to 13 years old for boys. Furthermore research shows the life expectancy for exploited children is 7 years from their initial exploitation date up until their death from HIV/AIDS or homicide.
